Gasherbrum II-2006

During the summer of 2006, I was in Pakistan attempting (and actually reaching the summit of) the world's 13th highest mountain, Gasherbrum II (8,035/26,362 ft).

Gasherbrum 2 is located along the Abruzzi Glacier in northern Pakistan. Four of the world's 14 highest peaks are found within a few miles of each other, including K2 (the world's second highest peak).

Here's a conversion chart for those of you not metrically inclined

Meters= Feet
3000m = 9,843 ft
3500 = 11,483
4000 = 13,123
4500 = 14,764
5000 = 16,404
5500 = 18,045
6000 = 19,685
6500 = 21,325
7000 = 22,966
7500 = 24,606
8000 = 26,247
8500 = 27,887

Read about the trip in my dispatches, or blog, or whatever you want to call them:

2:The high Sahara
3:Base Camp at last
4:First foray on the mountain
5:A summit, finally
6:Well, here we are, then
