Dispatch #4: The Song Remains the SameJuly 2. Arrive at Base Camp. Crappy weather-snow squalls.July 3. Heavy snow overnight. Crappy weather, mostly clouds. July 4. Snow overnight. Crappy weather, but better as the day progresses. Clear at sunset, but cold. Good news! July 5. Snow overnight. Crappy weather. Some exploration of the approach to the mountain. July 6. Snow overnight. Crappiest weather yet, snow all day. Some hiking, much sitting. Don sick with bacterial dysentary? July 7. No snow overnight. Crappy weather. walked to K2 base camp. Don's fever broke overnight & he's able to eat and drink. July 8. No snow overnight. Weird weather-no winds up high- but crappy, including some rain and snow. Don and some Italians went up the hill a ways and had multiple adventures with avalanches. Nobody is on Broad Peak or K2 at present. I stayed down and had excellent ham and Czech liquor with our Czech members and their friends from K2. Definitely the right choice. So we're stuck at BC until the sun comes out and cleans the mountain of snow. You thought this stuff was exciting, huh? July 9. The sun came out. Still sat around all day, watching huge avalanches pour down the faces all around us. Nobody was dumb enough to try to climb today. But tomorrow? That's what we're all agonizing about. We'll see. A Program Note: I know you like the pictures but they're way expensive to upload at 300 bps (max). So you'll have to be content with one pic per post in the future. Mike
